Kilruane Churchyard
The old churchyard of Kilruane, in the civil parish of Kilruane, Barony of Lower Ormond, Co. Tipperary — between Nenagh and Cloughjordan. It holds the ruins of the 15th-century medieval parish church and of a later Church of Ireland church, and is the burial ground of some eighty families of the district.

History
About this graveyard
Kilruane, now part of the modern parish of Cloughjordan, lies between Nenagh and Cloughjordan in the Barony of Lower Ormond. The churchyard, in Kilruane townland, contains the ruins of the 15th-century old Kilruane parish church together with the ruins of a later Church of Ireland church built with the aid of the Board of First Fruits. There are 82 inscribed stones, the oldest of which — to Matthew Elword, who died in 1773 — records the earliest burial. A few of the stones are broken or badly weathered.
