Monsea Graveyard
The old graveyard at Monsea, in the civil parish of Monsea and townland of the same name — about five miles north of Nenagh, near the shore of Lough Derg in the Catholic parish of Puckane (Cloghprior and Monsea). It surrounds the ruins of a church that was originally 12th-century and extensively rebuilt in the 15th, and has been a burial place for Catholic and Protestant families alike since the early 1700s.

History
About this graveyard
Monsea graveyard lies in the civil parish and townland of Monsea, Barony of Lower Ormond, about five miles north of Nenagh and near the shore of Lough Derg; it is today in the Catholic parish of Puckane (Cloghprior and Monsea), whose register dates from 1834. The church here was originally of the 12th century and was extensively repaired and refurbished in the 15th; its remaining ruins were cleaned in recent years by the County Council, and in the course of that work three headstones of the Tumpane family — missed by the compilers — were unearthed and added as an addendum. Near the graveyard there once stood a Church of Ireland church, since demolished, whose adjoining rectory was the large house nearby. In all, 207 headstones were transcribed, a great many of them dating from the early and middle 1700s; the earliest is that of John Tumpane, who died in 1730.
