In Memory
Rev. Daniel Murphy
1818 · St. Mary's of the Rosary Church
Absorpta est mors in Victoria — 1 Cor. Sacred to the memory of the Reverend Daniel Murphy, Pastor of this parish, who died 4 July 1818, in 66 year of his age. His way without guile, not without honor his end; in his converse with men, blameless. Giving offence to none, conciliating the goodwill of all; he lived without an enemy. To soothe the pang of affliction, the dying Christian's hope to invigorate, was the study of his days. In his care the orphan forgot he was fatherless, and the widow wept no more. Faithful in the vineyard of his ministry, God blessed and gave increase to the work of his hands. For God's house he had a love, & a zeal for his honor. This sacred edifice, raised by the labours of his piety, during life the good man's glory, to the people of Nenagh remains a monument of his departed worth; this stone a tribute of their gratitude, veneration, love. “Beati mortui, qui in Domino moriuntur” — Apoc. 14.
Note: Transferred from the old chapel in 1898; the “sacred edifice” refers to the church Fr Murphy built in 1803.
