Rev. Joseph Downes

Sacred to the memory of the Revd. Joseph Downes for 14 years Pastor of the united parishes of Monsea and Killodiernan. Throughout a long and active life he laboured zealously in the sacred ministry. This splendid chapel and several others erected by him remain as lasting monuments of his piety and striking proofs of the desire which he evinced to promote the honour and glory of his Devine Master. He departed this life on the 13th day of March 1844 in the 75th year of his age. At his special request, this monument is erected to solicit the prayers of the faithful for the eternal repose of his soul. May he rest in peace. (Wilm Harding, Nenagh, Facit).
