About this graveyard
Lisboney is a civil parish of about 4,400 acres bounded by Nenagh, Ballymackey, Kilruane, Kilkeary and Ballinaclough. Its graveyard lies beside the main Dublin road roughly a mile and a half from Nenagh on the Roscrea side, on the site of the old parish church of which no distinguishing features remain; the O'Kennedys were the principal landholders recorded in the Civil Survey of 1654. The ground holds a good number of eighteenth-century stones, none much older than the middle of that century, and its 290 inscriptions were transcribed by Denise Foulkes for the Ormond Historical Society (Section B, Volume 4, 1986).
